Ottawa, ON – As Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, Senator Martin welcomed a new group of 2019 Senate Pages.
OCTOBER 2 – NATIONAL FOUNDATION DAY OF KOREA
Ottawa, ON – Senator Martin attended the National Foundation Day of Korea reception at the Museum of History hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea. Following the reception, Senator Martin enjoyed the celebration concert featuring Kang Sora and her team of talented musicians. The next day, she met with Ambassador Shin to discuss Canada-Korea relations.
SEPTEMBER 28 - CANADA MULTICULTURAL CREATIVE WORKS FESTIVAL
Richmond, BC – Senator Martin presented remarks on behalf of the Senate of Canada at the 5th annual Canada Multicultural Creative Works Festival. Joined by local members of the community, Senator Martin enjoyed all the performances and creative works shared at the Festival.
SEPTEMBER 26 - CANADIAN STUDENTS LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
Abbotsford, BC – Senator Martin spoke to secondary students at an annual Leadership Conference.
SEPTEMBER 25 – KOREA NATIONAL DAY RECEPTION
Vancouver, BC – Senator Martin presented remarks on behalf of the Senate of Canada at a special reception hosted by Consul General Chung and the Consulate of the Republic of Korea in Vancouver to commemorate Korea National Day.
SEPTEMBER 21 - CELEBRATION OF LIFE FOR HENRY ART LEFEVER
Nanaimo, BC –Senator Martin joined Korea War Veterans, friends and family to celebrate the late Art Lefever, past president of Korea Veterans Association Nanaimo Unit. Over the years, Senator Martin and her staff had the honour of corresponding with Art and working with him on various projects for Korea War Veterans. They also discussed the annual commemoration of Battle of Kapyong, which Art had been coordinating for several years. Senator Martin’s office will work closely with Parks Canada to ensure that the commemorative ceremony continues to honour the legacy of Korean War Veterans.
SEPTEMBER 20 - MR. LEE JA-HYUNG'S 109TH BIRTHDAY
Surrey, BC – Senator Martin celebrated Mr. Lee’s 109th birthday with members of the local Korean Canadian community, friends and family.
SEPTEMBER 7 & 14 - CHUSEOK CELEBRATIONS
In celebration of Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) and the Mid-Autumn Festival, Senator Martin attended events in Vancouver (Sept. 7) and Edmonton (Sept. 14) hosted by the BC Korean Society and the Edmonton Seniors Society, respectively. At both events, Senator Martin enjoyed the traditional performances, food and activities with members of the local Korean-Canadian community.
2019 FEDERAL ELECTIONS
Since the start of the federal election, Senator Martin has taken part in various events and activities by attending campaign events and receptions, community outreach events, and events hosted by community organizations and institutions open to the public.
AUGUST 26 to SEPTEMBER 2 - KOREA TRIP
South Korea - Senator Martin attended the 6th Overseas Korean Politicians Forum in South Korea hosted by the Korean Government. The Forum invited politicians of Korean descent from all over the world to share their expertise and experiences. During her trip, she visited several cities including Seoul, Paju and Busan. The trip also included bilateral meetings with Korean legislators to discuss Canada-Korea relations. Senator Martin also attended a special wreath laying ceremony at the United Nations Memorial Cemetery in honour of the 26, 791 Canadian soldiers who served and paid the ultimate sacrifice during the Korea War.
