MEETINGS AND GATHERINGS WITH CONSTITUENTS
Senator Martin met with various constituents over the month of January. Senator Martin met with her past and current Sauder EMP mentees for a new year networking brunch, met with community leaders, and held roundtable meetings.
2017 LUNAR NEW YEAR PARTY
Ottawa, ON - On January 14, Senator Yonah Martin attended the Lunar New Year celebration hosted by the Korean Community Association of Ottawa held at Ron Kolbus Lakeside Centre. In celebration of Seollal (Korean New Year), Ambassador Daeshik Jo and Embassy staff, veterans of the Korean War, and members of the Ottawa community were in attendance to enjoy cultural performances, food and comraderie.
BURNABY CENTRAL SECONDARY SCHOOL VISIT
Burnaby, BC - On January 12th, Senator Yonah Martin spoke to groups of Grade 10, 11 and 12 students about the Parliament of Canada, including her role as a Senator and the work Senators do on behalf of Canadians. Senator Martin also shared her personal stories to encourage and motivate students to work hard to become global citizens and leaders.
HYACK FESTIVAL ASSOCIATION GALA DINNER
New Westminster, BC - On January 11, Senator Yonah Martin attended the inauguration ceremony for the new president of the Hyack Festival Association. Hyack’s theme for 2017 is First Nations. First Cities: Telling Our Story. Together. First Nations artist, actor, and director David H. Lyle, Artistic Director; 2017 Ambassadors; and many others were in attendance. Qayqayt First Nation Chief Rhonda Larrabee is the Honorary Parade Marshal for the 2017 Hyack International Parade set for May 27th in New Westminster. On January 29th, Senator Martin also attended the President’s Tea.
INAUGURAL "WOMEN IN POLITICS" SERIES AT UBC
Vancouver, BC - Senator Martin spoke at the inaugural "Women in Politics" event hosted by the UBC Conservatives. She shared her personal stories about life as a UBC student, 21 year teaching career, transition into politics, and life as a working mother. Students in attendance from various fields of study also had the opportunity to ask questions following the presentation. Sen. Martin enjoyed meeting the students and being back on campus of her Alma Mater.
