CRY Vancouver
CRY Vancouver was organized by Faytene Kryskow in conjunction with 4My Canada. Senator Martin was happy to attend with her colleague, Joy Smith, MP (Kildonan – St.Paul). MY CANADA stands for Motivated Young People for a Strong Canada and is faith based but nondenominational, they are a group of young leaders in Canada from many Christian perspectives that have a heart to walk in unity for a greater purpose: Seeing the Dominion of Canada make choices which will lead to a strong Canada for generations to come (our generation and our children's). MY CANADA is committed to educating young Canadians on how they can shape Canada in a positive way for generations to come and practically mobilizing them to do it!

Senator Martin was pleased to attend the 2009 World Police and Fire Games - Taekwando Tournament that took place in Burnaby, British Columbia.
Pitt River Bridge Announcement
Senator Martin was proud to have attended the announcement that Prime Minster Stephen Harper and Premier Gordon Campbell made concerning the Pitt River Bridge. The Government of Canada and the Government of British Columbia have agreed to cost-share the construction of a new seven-lane bridge across the Pitt River. The Pitt River crossing connects key economic and transportation facilities with Greater Vancouver and with the completion of the bridge the ability to move good quickly and efficiently through the Lower Mainland and into cross-Canada markets will greatly increase.
Harmony House Ground-breaking Ceremony
On August 4, 2009 Senator Martin was privileged to attend the ground-breaking ceremony for the Harmony House. on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development Canada; a Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation Equilibrium Sustainable Housing Demonstration Initiative. Senator Martin would like to congratulate Habitat Design + (plus) Consulting Limited, Insightful Healthy Homes Incorporated and Taylor Munro Energy Systems Incorporated. Together with their team of experts, their hard work and dedication are advancing the vision of sustainable housing in Canada. The tangible benefits of Harmony House are clear. Lower energy costs for the owners, a healthy indoor environment, reduced natural resource consumption and no green house gas emissions. For the Harmony House team, this project gives them the opportunity to be at the forefront of sustainable housing design and construction in Canada. Our Conservative Government is very proud to share in this tremendous spirit of community, partnership and commitment.
World Police and Fire Games Opening Ceremonies
Senator Martin was very pleased to attend the 2009 World Police & Fire Games hosted in our beautiful province of British Columbia. In 1985, the World Police & Fire Games Federation, a non-profit organization, run by the Californian Police Athletics Federation, established the World Police & Fire Games. Today, the World Police & Fire Games are a spectacular international sporting event, offering police officers, firefighters, customs and correction officers from around the world an opportunity to showcase their athletic excellence in over 65 sporting events. This event is held biennially, with the next Games taking place in New York City in 2011.
New Westminister Heritage Picnic - 150th Celebration
The New Westminster Heritage Picnic was in celebration of the city’s 150th year and was held on the beautiful grounds of city hall. Senator Martin had a wonderful time at the event that featured words from New Westminster Mayor Wayne Wright. Congratulations New Westminster on 150 amazing years!
Centre for Integration for African Immigrants
CIAI held their grand opening of their new facilities on Carnarvon Street in New Westminster. Senator Martin and Senator Donald were pleased to be invited to speak at the momentous occasion. The Centre of Integration for African Immigrants (CIAI) is a non-profit organization formed to support visible minorities with ethno-cultural barriers, by assisting in the settlement, adjustment, and integration process.
2009 S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Walk with the Dragon
Senator Martin was pleased to participate in the annual SUCCESS Walk with the Dragon event. This event is one of the largest fundraising events held in Vancouver. Each year over 12,000 individuals, including more than 600 teams, participate in the 7 km panoramic walk along the Stanley Park Seawall. This year the event celebrated its 24th year in Stanley Park. Money raised via pledges and sponsorships in instrumental for the development and continuance of essential SUCCESS social services and programs for our communities, particularly those for seniors, women, youths and families.
"Blue Skies Agreement" Announcement
The Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia–Pacific Gateway, on behalf of Canada’s Transport Minister, John Baird, today announced the successful conclusion of a Blue Sky air transport agreement with the Republic of Korea. The new agreement allows any number of air carriers from either country to operate scheduled passenger and all-cargo air services as frequently as desired, to and from any point in either country's territory. Air carriers will also be able to pick up traffic in each other's territory and continue to a third country as part of a service to or from their home territory. The agreement also provides for rights pertaining to flights carrying cargo only, allowing stand-alone cargo services between each other's territory and third countries, and includes a tariff regime that will allow carriers to readily react to market conditions.
