DECEMBER 19 - VICTORIA, B.C.
Victoria, BC – On December 19, the Republic of Korea’s Navy Cruise Training Group made an official visit to Canada. Senator Martin attended the welcoming ceremony aboard Munmu the Great on behalf of the Parliament of Canada. The following day, she attended the wreath-laying ceremony at the Korean War cenotaph located outside the BC Legislature; and delivered remarks at the evening reception aboard the battleship Munmu, attended by Veterans and their families and members of the Victoria and Greater Vancouver communities. While in Victoria, Sen. Martin also met with organizers of the upcoming 2020 Victoria Forum. On Dec. 30, Senator Martin returned to the Legislature to speak to the general assembly of youth and young adult delegates of BC Youth Parliament (BCYP).
DECEMBER 12 - PANEL ON CHARITIES WITH AFP OTTAWA
Ottawa, ON - Senator Yonah Martin joined her colleagues Senator Terry Mercer and Senator Ratna Omidvar on a panel hosted by AFP Ottawa with nearly a 100 members in the charitable and non-profit sector. The panel focused on the Special Senate Committee on the Charitable Sector’s Report that was tabled in the Senate of Canada in June.
DECEMBER 6 - 2019 YEAR-END
Various regions – Senator Martin attended various year-end celebrations and events to conclude a productive year. Though only able to attend events in Ottawa, Toronto and BC due to time and limited resources, she recorded messages and/or sent letters to various regions as a show of sincere support. Senator Martin sincerely appreciates the leadership and dedication of all the groups and organizations that strengthen communities and provide valuable programs and support to those in need. Canada is a country of countless volunteers.
DECEMBER 6 - KOWIN TORONTO 10TH ANNIVERSARY
Toronto, ON - Senator Martin delivered a keynote speech at KOWIN Toronto's 10th Anniversary celebration highlighting remarkable women in leadership roles in Canada and around the world.
DECEMBER 5 - 43RD PARLIAMENT
Ottawa, ON - The official opening ceremony of the 43rd Session of Parliament took place on December 5, 2019, with a Speech from the Throne delivered by Governor General Julie Payette in the Senate of Canada's temporary chamber. The Senate rose on December 12 following Royal Assent of Bill C-2, An Act for granting to Her Majesty certain sums of money for the federal public administration for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2020. To conclude 2019, the Speaker of the Senate hosted the annual Christmas party for all Senators, staff and employees of the Senate.
NOVEMBER 29 - WORLD OKTA YEAR END CELEBRATION
Vancouver, BC - Senator Martin brought greetings to the annual W-OKTA Year End celebrations and highlighted the upcoming 5th anniversary of the Canada Korea Free Trade Agreement in 2020.
NOVEMBER 27 - CANADA KOREA SOCIETY AGM
Ottawa, ON - Senator Martin attended the 35th Anniversary AGM of the Canada Korea Society to celebrate in the successes of the past year. The Assistant Deputy Minister of Global Affairs gave a key note speech at the event. In attendance were Korean War Veterans, dignitaries, public servants, and CKS members and friends.
NOVEMBER 23 – MEETING WITH THE SOCIAL STUDIES EDUCATORS COUNCIL
Gatineau, QC – Senator Martin presented to the Social Studies Educators Council about teaching students about the Korean War and its commemorative events across Canada.
NOVEMBER 14 - ENTREPRENEURIAL LEADERS ORGANIZATION FORUM
Vancouver, BC - Senator Martin attended the annual ELO forum and heard from various guest speakers that focused on equipping Christian entrepreneurial leaders to have a greater impact in the marketplace and in their profession.
