MEETINGS AND GATHERINGS
Senator Martin held various meetings with constituents and attended a series of events in British Columbia, Ottawa and Toronto over the course of the months of November and December.
VARIOUS YEAR-END EVENTS
Ottawa, ON - Senator Martin participated in various year-end events on Parliament Hill including Toys for Tots, CPC Children's Party, Senate Speaker's Christmas Dinner and hosted female Ambassadors and High Commissioners to listen to Ellie Cha, HanVoice Pioneer Intern. Ellie shared her personal story of her life in North Korea and how her family defected from the regime.
DEEPENING CANADA BULGARIA RELATIONS
Senator Martin hosted the Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria to Parliament Hill and also attended a special christmas party in Vancouver with the Bulgarian community of BC.
ROYAL CANADIAN REGIMENT'S 134TH ANNIVERSARY DINNER
Ottawa, ON - On December 6th, Senator Martin attended the Royal Canadian Regiment's 134th anniversary dinner. She delivered a congratulatory remark, highlighting the Regiment's milestones since its inception in 1883.
CHARACTER ABBOTSFORD ON THE HILL
Ottawa, ON - On November 30th, Senator Martin co-hosted the Character Canada on the Hill with The Hon. Ed Fast, The Hon. Richard Neufeld, and MP Jati Sidhu. The event invited the Character Canada delegation from Abbotsford, BC to speak to Parliamentarians and foreign dignitaries.
CANADA 150 & SENATE 150 CEREMONIES
Ottawa, ON - On November 29th, Senator Martin awarded 13 British Columbians with the Senate 150 Medal during a presentation ceremony hosted by the Speaker of the Senate, The Hon. George Furey. The ceremony took place on Parliament Hill. The Senate 150 Medal was created to recognize and honour unsung heroes for their volunteer efforts and contributions which have bettered the lives of others in their communities, Canada and beyond. The commemorative medal was created in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the first sitting of the Senate of Canada. Senator Martin's Senate 150 Medal recipients were Mr. Don Chapman, HCol. Howe Lee, Mrs. Insoon Lee, Mr. Woo Seok Lee, Mrs. Eunice Oh, Mrs. Eun Suk Park, Honoary Consul Ron Suh, Mrs. Amy Sundberg, Dr. Patrick Thomas, Mrs. Ae Kyung Woo and Mr. Sing Yeo.
SPIRIT OF CHANGE CONCERT
Ottawa, ON - On November 23rd, Senator Martin co-hosted Spirit of Change Classical Music Concert on Parliament Hill with Delegation of the European Union to Canada and the Embassies of the Republic of Bulgaria, Federal Republic of Germany, the Republic of Latvia, the Republic of Poland, Romania and the Slovak Republic.
NATIONAL CHILD'S DAY
Ottawa, ON - On November 21st, Senator Martin co-hosted the National Child's Day on Parliament Hill with Senator Mercer, Senator Munson and Senator Gagné. The event invited delegations of students and teachers from across Canada to celebrate the National Child's Day.
5TH IMJIN HOCKEY CLASSIC
Ottawa, ON - On November 18th, Senator Martin attended the annual Imjin Classic (the commemorative grudge match between the PPCLI and R22R regimental hockey teams) with Embassy of Republic of Korea at TD Place Stadium. The VanDoos scored in the final minutes to defeat the Princess Pat's 2-0.
SUPPORTING EDUCATION & BC YOUTH PARLIAMENT
Port Moody, BC - On November 17th, Senator Martin visited Heritage Woods Secondary School and spoke to students about the role of the Senate in Canadian democracy. Senator Martin also shared her personal stories to encourage and motivate students to work hard to become global citizens and leaders. Victora, BC - On December 30th, Senator Martin attended the 89th British Columbia Youth Parliament to meet with students engaged in politics. The BC Youth Parliament provides a venue for young, aspiring leaders from throughout British Columbia the opportunity to discuss and debate current issues and policies important to them while further developing their debate, communication and analytical skills.
