The Canada Pakistan Association of National Capital Region hosted an Eid & Greet event at the Parliament of Canada on Nov 8th, 2012. Senator Martin attended this event, and she personally congratulated Senator Salma Attaullahjan.

THE 3RD KOWIN ANNUAL LEADERSHIP SEMINAR
The third 2012 KOWIN Leadership Seminar was held at the City View Room at the Ellicott School of International Affair at George Washington University. The event was co-hosted with the Korean Students Association of GWU with the theme of Empowering Womanhood: Reclaiming Feminine Power. The keynote speaker was Senator Yonah Martin of British Columbia whose speech had the title, "Y's women: Wisdom of Women (and a Few Good Men)." Following this speech were the panel discussion on "Reclaiming Feminine Power in Politics," a lecture, "Superwoman Complex," by Mina Cheon and a roundtable mentoring session. Over 100 participants attended this event.

RECEPTION IN HONOUR OF THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF SOUTH KOREA
Before the Reception: Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird, on behalf of the Honourable Julian Fantino, Canada's Minister of International Cooperation, and Mr. Kim Sung-hwan, the Republic of Korea's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen the two countries' collaboration on international development. September 22, 2012: Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird and H.E. Kim Sung-hwan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Korea (South Korea), today signed a Joint Declaration on Enhancing the Strategic Dialogue marking a commitment by their respective departments to meet on an annual basis, or as necessary to discuss bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest. Minister Kim’s visit to Canada is the first bilateral visit by a South Korean Foreign Minister in five years. In a separate bilateral luncheon, the pair discussed other issues of mutual concern, including: food security; human rights and the nuclear program in North Korea; Burma and ASEAN; the situation in the Middle East; and economic cooperation, including negotiations toward a Free Trade Agreement between the two countries. Minister Kim expressed South Korea’s support for Canada’s entry to the East Asia Summit. Minister Baird endorsed South Korea’s bid for a spot on the United Nations Security Council.
