Vancouver, BC - Senator Martin presented remarks at KOWIN Vancouver's AGM on behalf of the Senate of Canada. During the event, members gathered to celebrate the term of past-president Namsook Jang and welcome their new president Bosun Kim.
JULY 28 - 6TH ANNUAL KOREAN WAR VETERANS DAY IN SUDBURY
Sudbury, ON - Past president of KVA of Sudbury, Nelson Wall, joined by the regional Korean community commemorated the 6th Annual Korean War Veterans Day at the Civic Memorial Cemetery. During the ceremony, Mr. Leonard Kim presented Senator Martin's special greeting to all those in attendance.
JULY 28 - 6TH ANNUAL KOREAN WAR VETERANS DAY IN BURLINGTON
Burlington, ON - Senator Martin joined Korea War Veterans, Vice Consul Hyejeong Ahn, Minister Karina Gould, Naval Officers of Her Majesty's Canadian Ship, special guests and community members at the Canadian Naval Ship Monument in Spencer Smith Park. Following the ceremony a reception was held at the Halton Naval Veterans Association in Burlington organized by KVA Unit 26 and Honorary member Hoo Jung Jones Kennedy.
JULY 28 - 6TH ANNUAL KOREAN WAR VETERANS DAY IN EDMONTON
Edmonton, AB - Korea War Veterans, dignitaries and members of the community gathered at the Alberta Legislative Grounds to commemorate the 6th annual Korean War Veterans Day. The annual ceremony was organized by the KWCC of Edmonton, chaired by Heath Lee.
JULY 27 - 6TH ANNUAL KOREAN WAR VETERANS DAY IN OTTAWA
Ottawa, ON - His Excellency Maeng-ho Shin, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea joined by members of the diplomatic corps; Korea Veterans Association Unit 7 and members of the Canadian Armed Forces; the Korean community of Ottawa and special guests gathered at the National War Memorial to commemorate Korean War Veterans Day in our nation's capital. The annual ceremony is organized by The Office of the Defence Attaché of ROK and KVA Unit 7, supported by Veterans Affairs Canada and KWCC of Ottawa (chaired by Senator Martin).
JULY 27 - 6TH ANNUAL KOREAN WAR VETERANS DAY IN BRAMPTON
Brampton, ON - The national ceremony took place once more in Brampton, Ontario at the site of the KVA Wall of Remembrance (the national Korean War memorial) at Meadowvale Cemetery. In attendance were Her Hon. Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario; federal, provincial and municipal politicians; Consul General of the Republic of Korea Tae-in Chung and members of the diplomatic corps; Veterans of the Korea War, members of the Canadian Armed Forces and cadets; and members of the Korean community of the Greater Toronto Area and surrounding communities, friends and supporters. Students from Korea also joined the ceremony and laid a wreath on behalf of the youth of Korea in honour of their heroes of the Korea War. Lunch for veterans was hosted by CG Chung.
JULY 27 - 6TH ANNUAL KOREAN WAR VETERANS DAY IN BURNABY
Burnaby, BC - Senator Yonah Martin attended the 6th annual Korean War Veterans Day ceremony at the Ambassador of Peace Korea War memorial in Central Park alongside Korea War Veterans, The Hon. Andrew Scheer, Burnaby Mayor Mike Hurley, and Deputy Consul General Kangjun Lee of the Republic of Korea. Many federal, provincial and municipal politicians and members of the diplomatic corps; members of the Canadian Armed Forces and regimental representatives, RCMP and Burnaby Firefighters; and members of the Korean Community of BC, friends and supporters were also in attendance. The annual ceremony is organized by the Korean War Commemorative Alliance (KWCA), coordinated by The Office of Senator Martin and supported by several Korean community organizations. Following the ceremony, KWCA hosted lunch for the veterans, and the Burnaby Firefighters graciously served a light lunch for all other attendees.
JULY 20 - 6TH ANNUAL KOREAN WAR VETERANS DAY IN CALGARY
Calgary, AB - On July 20th, President Bob McNevin of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 288 and Korea War Veterans were joined by MLA Peter Guthrie, Mayor Peter Brown and members of the local Korean community at the Airdrie Cenotaph Korean War Memorial. The ceremony was coordinated by the Korean War Commemorative Committee (KWCC) of Calgary, chaired by Andy Choi.
JULY 15 - VISIT TO HOCKEY HALL OF FAME
Toronto, ON - Senator Martin joined by Andrew Montieth, Brendan Smyth and Cameron Smyth presented the Imjin River Cup to the Hockey Hall of Fame and Vice President Phil Pritchard. The Imjin River Cup is a trophy that honours the legacy of Canadians during the Korean War who played hockey on the frozen Imjin River.
JULY 1 – CANADA DAY CELEBRATIONS
Vancouver, BC – Senator Martin enjoyed a full day of festivities: 1) Vancouver Chinatown Canada Day celebration that featured flag raising, cake cutting and cultural performances; 2) Granville Island Canada Day celebration; 3) Youth Celebrate Canada Day event at Renfrew Park where hundreds gathered for activities, entertainment, prizes and cake cutting. New Westminster, BC – At the end of the day, Senator Martin delivered remarks at the Hyack Canada Day Festival and enjoyed fireworks.
