NOVEMBER 1 - MEETINGS AND GATHERINGS
Senator Martin had different meetings with with Mayor Patrick Brown, MPP Stan Cho and Minister Raymond Cho to discuss future legislative items, including the 70th anniversary of the Korean War commemorations and the 5th anniversary of the Canada Korea Free Trade Agreement. She also met with the Ontario History and Social Studies Teachers Association to discuss the Korean War. In Vancouver, she visited the Fujitsu Intelligence Technology center.
OCTOBER 26 - IMJIN CLASSIC 2019
Ottawa, ON - The 7th annual Imjin Classic took place on October 26th in Ottawa, as the Royal 22nd Regiment and Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry teams faced off on the ice at TD Place Stadium. The game was organized by the Office of the Defence Attaché at the Korean Embassy and the Canadian Army. In the final minutes of a closely fought grudge match, the Princess Pats managed to score the winning goal against the Vandoos, winning the 2019 Imjin Classic, 6-5. Before the game commenced, guests had an opportunity to enjoy a traditional percussion performance and K-POP dance in the stadium foyer. Following the hockey game, players and their families, Korean War Veterans, members of the Korean community and dignitaries gathered for a light reception where Gen. Byung Hyuk Choi of the Republic of Korea Army presented the Order of National Security Merit Guksun Medal to LGen. Wayne Eyre.
OCTOBER 15 to 31 - SCHOOL VISITS
Across BC and Ottawa - During the month of October, Sen. Martin participated in a roundtable discussion on food security at UBC. Senator Martin visited Banting Elementary School as the students to speak about the role of the Senate as well as answer students' questions about the federal election they were following carefully. She also returned to Tamawanis Secondary School to speak to a grade 10 class about the Senate and the federal election in progress at the time. They, too, had thoughtful questions for Sen. Martin about her work as a senator and about the election. On October 29th, Senator Martin’s office organized a tour of the Senate of Canada Building for students at the Broadview Public School. The next day, Sen. Martin visited the school to meet with visiting students from the island of Jeju off the coast of South Korea.
OCTOBER 12 – OUTSTANDING YOUNG AMBASSADOR AWARDS
Vancouver, BC – As an Honourary Board Member of the D2D Destiny Foundation, Senator Martin attended the Outstanding Young Ambassadors Award Ceremony hosted at the Westin Bayshore Hotel. On behalf of the Foundation, Senator Martin presented the Outstanding Community Service Award.
OCTOBER 3 – KWCC MEETING
Ottawa, ON – Senator Martin met with members of the Korean War Commemorative Committee to set the 2020 agenda and discuss upcoming events.
OCTOBER 3 – MEETING WITH SENATE PAGES
Ottawa, ON – As Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, Senator Martin welcomed a new group of 2019 Senate Pages.
OCTOBER 2 – NATIONAL FOUNDATION DAY OF KOREA
Ottawa, ON – Senator Martin attended the National Foundation Day of Korea reception at the Museum of History hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea. Following the reception, Senator Martin enjoyed the celebration concert featuring Kang Sora and her team of talented musicians. The next day, she met with Ambassador Shin to discuss Canada-Korea relations.
SEPTEMBER 28 - CANADA MULTICULTURAL CREATIVE WORKS FESTIVAL
Richmond, BC – Senator Martin presented remarks on behalf of the Senate of Canada at the 5th annual Canada Multicultural Creative Works Festival. Joined by local members of the community, Senator Martin enjoyed all the performances and creative works shared at the Festival.
SEPTEMBER 26 - CANADIAN STUDENTS LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
Abbotsford, BC – Senator Martin spoke to secondary students at an annual Leadership Conference.
SEPTEMBER 25 – KOREA NATIONAL DAY RECEPTION
Vancouver, BC – Senator Martin presented remarks on behalf of the Senate of Canada at a special reception hosted by Consul General Chung and the Consulate of the Republic of Korea in Vancouver to commemorate Korea National Day.
