The Fraser River Discovery Centre Expansion Funding Announcement
The Fraser River Discovery Centre offers quality educational programming for the public to experience, including: school programs, speaker series, walking tours, special events/festivals, along with interesting and engaging exhibits, displays and videos of the Fraser River. It is a hands-on interpretive centre with the mandate of “Connecting communities in discovery and celebration of the living, working Fraser River”.
The existing Preview Centre opened in 2001 with 5,000 square feet, and since then, the Fraser River Discovery Centre Society received $2 million from the provincial and federal governments through the Canada-B.C. Infrastructure Program to expand the existing centre to an impressive 17,000 square feet!
The expansion will help the Centre continue providing consultation services on the economic and environmental sustainability of the Fraser River Basin, and additional educational and tourism services related to the river.
Enhancements include new permanent displays, a state of the art theatre and an expanded gift shop.
The expanded centre will help staff and volunteers spread excitement to the expected 50,000 people who will visit this year.
