THE HONOURABLE YONAH MARTIN JOINS GOVERNOR GENERAL DAVID JOHNSTON TO ATTEND THE PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATION IN SEOUL, KOREA
VANCOUVER, BC - Senator Yonah Martin departs for Seoul, Korea to join the Canadian delegation attending the Presidential Inauguration of President-elect Geun-hye Park to be held on February 25, 2013. His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston is leading the delegation that includes Parliamentary Secretary Deepak Obhrai; The Honourable Yonah Martin and Member of Parliament Barry Devolin, Co-Chairs of Canada Korea Inter-Parliamentary Group; and Member of Parliament Jasvir Sandhu.
The inauguration of President Park Geun-hye is a historic moment for Korea to begin the era of the 1st female president, and an important milestone for women of Korean descent in Korea and around the world.
2013 is a special milestone year for Canada and Korea, with the declaration of “Year of Korea” in Canada and the “Year of Canada” in Korea, to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Canada and Korea.
The official program for the Governor General and the Canadian delegation will include the inauguration ceremony; bilateral meetings and events with key stakeholders; a wreath laying ceremony at the War Museum of Korea and a tour of the De-Militerized Zone. In addition to the official program, Senator Martin and MP Barry Devolin, as Co-Chairs of Canada Korea Inter-Parliamentary Group, will meet with their Korean counterparts. They will also meet with Minister Park Sung Choon of the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs; key legislators and stakeholders related to the Canada-Korea file.
