Between 1914 and 1918, more than 650,000 Canadians and Newfoundlanders fought to ensure the peace and freedom we enjoy today.  Of those, more than 68,000 gave their lives and another 170,000 were wounded.

Today, on Vimy Ridge Day, Canadians from coast to coast to coast stand united in remembrance of and gratitude to those who authored one of the most important chapters in our nation’s history.

These commemorative ceremonies mark the End of an Era – the passing of a generation that asserted our independence on the world stage and established our international reputation as an unwavering champion of freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law.
