Federal, Provincial and Territorial Governments Cooperate to Improve Foreign Credential Recognition for Newcomers to Canada

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Nov. 30, 2009) - Under the new Pan-Canadian Framework for the Assessment and Recognition of Foreign Qualifications, foreign-trained workers who submit an application to be licensed or registered to work in certain fields will be advised within one year whether their qualifications will be recognized. Senator Yonah Martin from British Columbia, on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, and the Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, today reiterated support for a new framework to enhance foreign qualification recognition for internationally trained workers.

Ringing in the New Year
January 28, 2009

At Lougheed Town Centre, festivities included Chinese New Year events in the morning, followed by Korean New Year events in the afternoon, including a performance of the Lion Dance, martial arts demonstrations, art, pottery and more.

The event, which included the unveiling of information panels describing both the Korean and Chinese festivals, which will be on permanent display in the mall, drew quite a crowd - including Senator Yonah Martin, MLA Harry Bloy, Coquitlam Mayor Richard Stewart, MP Bill Siksay and Ken Beck Lee, the chairman of the Vancouver Korean Cultural Society.
